Course Schedule

Course Description

The purpose of this course is to instill the practical skills required to perform simple day-to-day administrative tasks, as well as simple maintenance tasks.

The students will also receive a basic introduction to networking concepts and technological terminology.

Course Objectives

Administrative skills learned include:

Ø     Administering User Accounts

Ø     Manipulating Local and Global groups

Ø     Setting permissions and security on files and folders

Ø     Troubleshooting strategies

Ø     Remote Administration

Ø     Simple disaster recovery

The student will also learn maintenance tasks such as:

Ø     Converting FAT file systems to NTFS

Ø     Applying Service Paks

Ø     Using License Manager to add Licenses for new workstations

Ø     Configuring Windows 95/98 workstations

Ø     Clock synchronization

Ø     User Profiles and Logon scripts

Ø     Using Disk Administrator

Ø     Creating a Backup Strategy

This course is not intended to replace the Microsoft Certified NT Administration course or to prepare students for the writing of the certification exams.  This course is geared towards the non-IT professional, who may need to do simple day-to-day administration in a small office environment.  However, all students will take a great deal from the course.

Each student will have the use of one Windows NT Server and one Windows 98 workstation to learn on and experiment with.  This course stresses hands-on.

Recommended Prerequisites

            2 day

It is recommended that the students be familiar with the Windows NT/95/98 interface.  Mouse skills are also necessary.
